About the treatment

An Epidural Steroid Injection is a minimally invasive treatment option used to address chronic low back pain which is one of the most common health complaints made by Americans today. This procedure is used to reduce inflammation associated with painful conditions including disc herniation, bone spurs, joint cysts, and sciatica. These conditions can cause pain in the lower back, neck, and lower/upper extremities.

Once moved to the procedure suite, your Desert Pain Specialists physician will sanitize and numb the procedure area using a local anesthetic. Once fully numb, your physician will use fluoroscopic (x-ray) guidance, to ensure proper needle placement and inject a mixture of corticosteroid – anesthesia into the epidural space of the spine. Following the injection, patients are taken to our recovery suite for observation. If a sedative is used during the procedure, the patient is asked to have a ride home and should also follow patient precautions for the rest of the day.
