As previously mentioned, cancer pain can come from many different sources. Oftentimes, cancer or tumor can press on surrounding structures, causing severe shooting stabbing-like pain. Also, common medications to treat cancer like chemotherapy drugs can cause side effects causing increased pain.
Symptoms
Depending on the patient’s diagnosis and type of cancer and various types of treatments can vary in symptoms and severity. Cancer pain can be chronic or acute and oftentimes gradually onsets with little warning or cause. As symptoms vary in every patient, Desert Pain Specialists consult your oncologist and take a multi-disciplinary approach.
Treatment
The most common types of treatments may recommend are a combination of interventional therapies, alternative and behavioral health consultations to address all aspects of your pain. Research has shown that cancer pain can be a mental battle along with a physical battle. Combined with steroid injections, opioid medications, acupuncture, and therapy, most patients experience reduced pain relief over time.
